Adding to the genre of people who are attempting to go against the grain of contemporary music is Mary Prankster.
Mary Pranksters new release, of which they got their name from the lead singer, Tell Your Friends is a mix of old school rock, blues and Indie rock. All of these are encompassed in an almost flirtatious and playful sense of humor, in which they bring to such songs as, ?Irresponsible Woman.?
The sense of this new CD takes you to this place where you hear these loud banging lyrics, that the best ones could not be mentioned, and we all know that it?s all about the noise. Not as much as the predecessors though.
She, much like some mainstream artists, harnesses her anger and throws it into her lyrics. You can almost sense the dissension and hate in her lyrical style.
?Darlin?? is a slow song that goes against much of the mood of the rest of the CD. The song is all about if someone really cares for them. If you like the likes of No Doubt, or in the case of ?Darlin?? Aimee Mann, then you will enjoy this CD.
If you?re in search of lyrics with meaning and depth with a little bit of kick and flavorful playfulness then Tell Your Friends about this CD. By the time this review is released it will be too late, but Mary Prankster will play at Nate ‘ Wally?s Fishbowl in Bowling Green on Thursday.
