Bowling Green students now have the opportunity to become local American Idols.
Buffalo Wild Wings is holding a weekly karaoke contest for students. The contest is every Wednesday night from 10 p.m. till midnight.
Last week, the first time the contest was held, had a strong student turnout.
After each contest 1 winner will be chosen from all of the night’s singers.
The winner will receive a $20 gift certificate from Buffalo Wild Wings. The week’s winner also has the opportunity to perform in the karaoke finals that will be held the week before spring break.
During the finals the top student singers will compete for the grand prize. First place in the finals receives $350. Second and third place receives $100 and $50 respectively.
Buffalo Wild Wings is also making sure that the local music scene is well represented at the contest.
The performances of students will be judged by a rotating group of judges. The judges will include music majors as well as local bands and singers.
The idea for the karaoke contest was thought up by Buffalo Wild Wings assistant general manager C.C. Snyder.
Snyder thought up the idea from being a fan of karaoke singing himself.
“I have been singing karaoke for a few years,” said Snyder. “I thought why not try one to get more people in here and reward some for coming out and doing a good job.”
Budding stars will have a good mix of songs that they will be able to sing.
According to Snyder the catalogue of songs should satisfy all the singer’s’ needs. Overall the students have close to a thousand different songs to chose from.
The success of this summer’s American Idol could produce bigger turnouts for the contest. Snyder believes that some students may come to the contest because they were fans of the T.V. show.
“This may give people a chance to do American Idol on a small scale,” said Snyder.
