Team falls short in last two meets

The women’s swimming and diving team is about to reach the halfway mark of their season, and the toughest competition of their season. Busy over the weekend before Thanksgiving, the team competed against Ohio State University and Wright State University.

Going into this weekends competion the team is coming off a double loss almost two weeks ago. On Nov. 22 the team traveled to Ohio State, and dropped the dual meet 138-102. Three individuals took top honors in their events, including Dana Schultz in the 100 butterfly (59.00), Kara Ohngren in the 500 free (5:11.00) and Alissa Davies in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.67).

The 400 medley relay team also came in first with a time of 4:05.14, members include Schultz, Tina Sestan, Sarah Agnew and Stephanie Buckner.

Divers took the last four places in the 3 meter — Molly Peterson took fifth, Ryan Donley took sixth, Lindsay Hines took seventh and Molly O’Donnell took eighth.

The swimmers faired much better in the 1-meter — Donley took fourth, Peterson took fifth, O’Donnell took seventh and Hines took eighth.

The next day, Nov. 23 the team drove to Wright State to compete.

In the 200 medley relay the women took second at 1:53.16, the team included Sestan, Alissa Davies, Dana Schultz and Stephanie Buckner. Davies, Schultz, Buckner and Amy Smith also took second in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:41.97.

Four team members took first in their events — Kara Ohngren (10:39.60) in the 1000 freestyle, Sestan tied for first in the 100 backstroke (1:01.81) and placed first in the 200 backstroke (2:11.19), Dana Schultz in the 200 butterfly (2:11.47), Agnew in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.88).

In the 3-meter diving, Peterson took first, Donley second and Hines third. In the 1-meter Donley took first, Peterson second and Hines third.

“If you look at the numbers from Wright State, Peterson and I just switched spots on the boards,” Donley said.

“That was tough. We drove back from OSU and had practice [swimming] and then drove to Wright State,” Agnew said.
