The Falcons took to the links at Ohio State this past weekend and came out tied for ninth out of the twelve participating schools in the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational.
It was a three round tournament and to begin the weekend the Falcons finished the first round in eighth place with a total of 326. Ohio State took the lead right from the start of the tournament by shooting a round of 289.
The second day the Falcons got a shot better with a total of 325 and finished the day in ninth place alone. Ohio State once again had the top round by shooting 302 to stay in the lead.
In the final round the Falcons shot 324 for the day to end the tournament with a total of 975 which tied them for ninth with Eastern Michigan. Ohio State had the top round for the third day in a row and won the tournament with an 886 total to finish thirty shots ahead of second place Kent State at 916.
“It was a tough field to play against,” head coach Kurt Thomas said. “There were a number of Big Ten teams in the field and it was about the toughest field we have faced all year.”
Junior Jenny Schnipke was the top finisher for the Falcons as she tied for sixteenth individually with three rounds of 78 to give her a 234 total.
“Jenny played really well this weekend for us and was consistent in her play,” Thomas said.
The second highest finisher was senior Shelley Binzel, who shot an 82, 80 and 81 for a 243 total to finish tied for twenty-eighth place.
Other finishers for the Falcons were Stephanie Elsea, who tied for fifty-fourth with a 254 total, Emily Hassen, who shot a 256 total to finish fifty-seventh, Amanda Schroeder with a 263 to finish sixty-third and Julie Wise with a 265 total to finish tied for sixty-fourth.
“All a round, I feel the team played better this weekend from their play last weekend and it’s gonna help us prepare for the MAC Championships this next week,” Thomas said.
The Falcons will finish their season at the MAC Championships this weekend in Hamilton, Ohio.
