More than a million Americans have difficulty walking, getting up off the floor, feeding themselves, breathing and have heart problems because of a disease.
Muscular Dystrophy affects the muscles of the body, getting weaker and weaker until they slowly stop working.
This disease affects more than a million Americans whose bodies cannot create the protein that muscles need to make the body function properly.
It’s groups like the Muscular Dystrophy Association that work to help families that are faced with more than their fair share of challenges.
MDA helps to provide financial assistance with medical equipment, world-wide research, medical and community services and professional public health education.
And, the city of Bowling Green has gotten in on the action too.
The Hampton Inn is sponsoring MDA’s annual Lock-up tomorrow. Leaders of the community are getting locked up behind bars for MDA and have to bail themselves out by raising funds for the cause.
Jed’s Barbeque and Brew is donating food for the jailbird participants.
According to MDA, money raised through these programs works to help improve the quality of one’s life that MD has infected.
Respiratory and physical therapies to prevent painful muscle contractures, orthopedic equipment used for support, surgery and much more is possible because of fundraisers like the MDA Lock-Up and the Jerry Lewis Marathon.
