Last weekend, Vision kicked off its annual Coming Out Week.
As the GLBTQIQSS (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, questioning, straight supportive) group on campus, Vision sponsors the event every year to raise awareness and celebrate the homosexual, bisexual and transsexual community at the University.
The week’s events continue tomorrow, Friday and Saturday with a hate crimes vigil, a discussion about stereotypes and a party and cookout at a city park, weather permitting.
Everyone is invited and encouraged to partake in this week’s events, not just members of Vision.
“All of our events are open to the whole campus,” said Vision Vice President Eric Crumrine.
Although National Coming Out Week was actually last week, Vision decided to commemorate it on campus this week because of fall break, Crumrine said. This allowed the group to add two days to the usually five-day week of events.
The two new events added this year are a showing and discussion of the movie “But I’m a Cheerleader,” and a cookout and games at the city park.
