  • They Both Die at the End – General Review
Summer break is the perfect opportunity to get back into reading. Adam Silvera’s (2017) novel, They Both Die at the End, can serve as a stepping stone into the realm of reading. The pace is fast, action-packed, and develops loveable characters. Also, Silvera switches point of view each chapter where narration mainly focuses on the protagonists, […]
  • My Favorite Book – Freshwater
If there’s one book that I believe everyone should read once in their life, it’s my favorite book – Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi. From my course, Queer Literature under Dr. Bill Albertini, I discovered Emezi’s Freshwater (2018). Once more, my course, Creative Writing Thesis Workshop under Professor Amorak Huey, was instructed to present our favorite […]

Omar ready for Heisman push in ’05

Omar Jacobs has silenced critics and impressed sports analysts all over the country this past year with his incredible play on the field.

Omar had one of the best years in MAC history and has become a potential first round pick in the NFL, whenever he decides to enter. Omar was named the MAC offensive player of the year and led the Falcons to an 8-3 regular season record.

Not only did Omar lead the nation with 36 touchdowns he had the second best average for passing yards per game (330.6).

Omar Jacobs was in the mix for Heisman this year but didn’t gain national attention probably because he played in the MAC conference.

This is not a reoccurrence; other MAC athletes have been overlooked for the heisman in the past few years. Quarterbacks of Marshall Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich were in the mix for the Heisman but never seriously considered.

Others of notability that were discriminated because of their conference were Randy Moss, Jason Babin and Ben Roethlisberger.

Having one of the best seasons in school history, Omar has easily surpassed the talent level of past B.G great Josh Harris. After sitting behind Harris last season, it seems that Omar absorbed the skills of Harris and added to his own skills.

Omar Jacobs has had such a successful year playing for B.G the past season; he is easily one of the main four frontrunners for the Heisman in 2005.

The four front runners for Heisman in 2005 will be Adrian Peterson of Oklahoma, Reggie Bush of USC, Marcus Vick of Virginia Tech and Omar Jacobs of Bowling Green. Adrian Peterson can very well become the Heisman in 2004. This is because he’s the most explosive running back since Maurice Clarett. Adrian Peterson has carved his way through Big Twelve opponents all year and nothing will be standing in Peterson’s way in 2005. Adrian Peterson’s unique size for a running back makes him virtually untouchable.

The other young running back contender is my personal pick for Heisman this year, Reggie Bush of Southern California. Reggie, has ran his way leading the Trojans to an undefeated record and BCS championship bid. Reggie Bush has the running skills like Emmitt Smith and speed of Barry Sanders. Reggie is so successful because he runs with his head up and consistently finds the open holes. Reggie Bush, unlike Adrian Peterson, is a smaller finesse tailback, Peterson is more physical. The Heisman trophy usually favors Quarterbacks giving the other two contenders a legitimate chance against these phenomenal running backs.

Marcus Vick is the next candidate that will step up in 2005 and contend for the Heisman. Marcus has only played in a few games his freshman season and this year he was suspended for the year (team violations). But you cannot count Marcus out of the race because he’s the brother of the great Michael Vick. Marcus Vick has great foot speed and is more elusive then his brother. The only thing setting Marcus back is his lack of awareness, which will come naturally after playing more games. Marcus Vick has great speed out of the pocket and cannon for an arm. If Marcus Vick can come back from adversity this next season, he will be breaking opponent’s ankles and leading Virginia Tech to another ACC title.

The next candidate is the B.G. warrior himself, Omar Jacobs. The best thing to happen to Bowling Green since the National Tractor Pull. Omar Jacobs is most definitely a long shot for the heisman next year only because the “hype” does not surround him. Jacobs has so many skills that do not come natural to most quarterbacks. Watching Omar play is like watching a master play with his students. Omar makes Perfect decisions and hardly makes mistakes. For example, Omar only threw three interceptions all year and continually ran out of the pocket after it collapsed, never waiting too long to make a play.

Omar has incredible arm strength and body size that benefits his style of play. If Omar can duplicate this season and hopefully lead B.G. to the MAC title, the heisman should be in his grasp. Omar Jacobs is the new style of quarterback. Fast, powerful, smart and elusive. Omar has got it all and his first step to the heisman starts in Mobile, Alabama.

On December 22nd 2004 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in the GMAC Bowl, Omar Jacobs will look to impress the national audience. If Omar can come out and throw for 300 yards and a couple touchdowns, he can boost his heisman hopes for next year. The best thing to do as a potential candidate is to shock the country in your bowl game. Omar Jacobs needs to have a solid performance and more importantly lead his team to victory. In turn, Omar will solidify himself for contention for Heisman in 2005. Next year in the first home game at the Doyt Perry Stadium, hopefully cheers of “Heisman Heisman Heisman” will reign through the stadium. Bowling Green needs to prepare for Omar in 2005.
