BLOOMINGTON, IN- BGSU Women’s Basketball suffered their first loss of the season last night, falling to the #12 Indiana Hoosiers at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, 96-61. 

The Falcons came into the game winners of two in a row to begin the 2022-23 season, but the nationally ranked Hoosiers flexed their dominance from the opening tip.

Six Hoosiers cracked double-digits on the night, with Sara Scalia leading the way for the red and white with 17 points and four rebounds. 

Mackenzie Holmes added 16 points and eight rebounds. Grace Berger was Ms. Do-Everything, ending the night with 14 points, six assists, and four rebounds. Sydney Parrish chipped in a double-double off the bench with 11 points and ten boards. 

For the orange and brown, senior Elissa Brett once again paced the Falcon offense with 14 points and five rebounds, while fellow senior Kadie Hempfling was perfect from the field, going 4-4 and adding 11 points of her own off the bench. 

If there was one positive to take away from a humbling night for the Falcons, it was the fact that BG won the turnover battle, finishing with a +2 TO margin (16 BG, 18 IU). 

However, head coach Robyn Fralick says their is still a lot of improvement to be made. 

“I thought our first half was really poor, especially our first quarter,” Fralick said. “I was disappointed with our toughness, and I think we just got caught up in the big moment. Our second half was much better. We settled in and played our style of basketball. We’ve got to build off of that second half moving forward.”

The Falcons are back in action Saturday afternoon, as they stay in the state of Indiana for a matchup with the Southern Indiana Eagles. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
