ROCHESTER, Mich.- BGSU Men’s Basketball improved their record to 2-0 behind a late 6-0 run in the final 33 seconds of the game to win on the road against the Oakland Grizzlies last night.
Bowling Green took down the Grizzlies for the first road game of the year. With both teams fighting hard until the very end, not side let the other have a commanding lead. There was a total of 32 fouls, showcasing a very physical battle inside the paint.
The Falcons maintained a lead for most of the game before falling behind 82-81 with 59 seconds after Oakland’s Keaton Hervey hit a couple of key free throws. Afterwards, Samari Curtis got a rebound for the Falcons, which led to a Chandler Turner layup, putting the Falcons up 83-82. Oakland then fouled Curtis who then further extended the lead to 85-82 with 18 seconds left on the clock. A couple of missed threes to try and attempt to tie the game from Oakland’s Rocket Watts forced the Golden Grizzlies to foul Lean Ayers III, who iced the game with two free throws, 87-82.
Ayers finished with 26 points. Turner scored 16 points and 10 rebounds, marking his first double double of the season. Point Guard Kaden Metheny also added 15 points, with Curtis and Rashaun Agee pitching in 12 points apiece.
Bowling Green is at Wright State at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the second of a four-game road stretch, with the next home game being Nov. 26 against Southern Indiana.
