BGSU Men’s Basketball defeated the Morgan State Bears on Saturday by a final score of 86-76. The Falcons, 1-5 going into the game, fell behind early to the Bears, trailing by eight points in the first half, before overpowering Morgan State in the second half.
BG faced adversity early when Morgan State went on a 10-0 run before the orange and brown put up four unanswered points. Shortly following this, the Bears took over again, going up 27-17. The back and forth continued until halftime finishing with a score of 42-34 at the break.
Opening the second half the Bears started hot, putting up six unanswered points before the Falcons managed to knot up the game after a 9-0 run via some help from Leon Ayers III. From here, the Falcons gained momentum and went back and forth with the Bears, slowly pulling away each possession.
The leading scorer of the night was Ayers, who led the team in points with 22 points in 35 minutes. Ayers was not the only Falcon who stepped up. Senior guard Samari Curtis added 18 points, three assists and a rebound in 36 minutes.
“We were looking for something to energize us,’ Head Coach Michael Huger said. “I thought we came out flat. To start the second half we went to our press and a couple different presses that we threw at them and were able to speed them up and get a couple turnovers.”
BGSU picked up a much-needed win, as they now are set to face several teams above .500 on the season. The Falcons will travel to the 1-6 Hampton Pirates before they take on the 5-3 Norfolk State Spartans on Dec. 11 and 14 respectively.
