Every family, team, and school claims its own rituals or traditions. Oftentimes, when we are first introduced to traditions we may consider them out of the ordinary or strange, but they have came to be by repetitive practice, until something goes from ‘strange’ to a simple habit. This begs the question as to what some Bowling Green traditions are, and maybe some that should start. Here is a Falcon Four list of traditions you should add to your routine.
Falcon Friday (Wear Orange)
This BGSU tradition might just be the most easily accomplished on the list. Every Friday, simply wake up and slap on one of your many orange BGSU shirts, after all, it’s cool to have school spirit. You might even catch BGSU Athletic Director Derek van der Merwe or some BGSU coaches and athletes keeping you in-check or handing out prizes for just wearing orange.
Events with President Rogers
One thing that all BGSU faculty members and students should know is President Rogers loves to interact with his BGSU family. Over the course of the semester, events with President Rogers will pop up all over campus. It may be free pizza at one of the many BGSU sporting events or perhaps it’s buying drinks for the first 100 students at Starbucks. All these events are connection events. Grab a selfie while you’re at it.
Attend a Hockey Game
One unique opportunity BGSU Athletics presents is the ability to attend a hockey game. The landscape for college hockey is much different than that of football or basketball as not nearly as many places have hockey. BGSU Hockey has a historic past including a championship in 1984. This is also the team with one of, if not the most, passion, creating an electric gameday atmosphere that makes a stop at the Slater Family Ice Arena a must.
Take a Trip Through Campus Fest
Campus Fest happens each Fall and affords a unique opportunity in which all BGSU student organizations are in the same place at the same time. Organizations ranging from Falcon Media to Spike Ball Club give ample opportunity for every student to find somewhere they fit in. Campus Fest this year is on August 30 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., so make sure to stop by and find the opportunity.
