Bowling Green State University gymnast Taylor Jensen has been named the female recipient of the 2023 Bob James Memorial Scholarship Award from the Mid-American Conference. Jensen was chosen over seven other athletes for the award and becomes BGSU’s conference-leading, 19th winner of the award.
According to a university news release, one female and one male student in their final season of eligibility receive the award with this criteria: a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, and displayed good strength of character, leadership skills, and citizenship.
Jensen is the third consecutive winner from BGSU and the fourth Falcon in the last five years to win the award. This win extends the school’s lead on second-place Ball State who has 12 previous winners.
According to athletic department, in 2023, Jensen appeared in all 12 of the team’s 2023 gymnastics meets as an all-arounder and won the MAC championship on the balance beam with a career high of 9.9, just missing a perfect score. Jenson also placed second on vault and was named to the MAC All-Tournament team as well.
“With the MAC’s presentation of the Bob James Memorial Scholarship Award to her, Taylor firmly establishes her name among the many outstanding Falcons who have previously received this honor,” said BGSU Athletic Director Derek van der Merwe. “Taylor exemplifies the qualities that we aspire for in our student-athletes, and we wholeheartedly wish her the very best as she utilizes her scholarship award at Georgia Tech, where beginning this fall she is pursuing a graduate degree in architecture.”
