STORYLINES:
- I-75 Provides Offensive Spark – Interstate 75 may be magical, every Ohio team nestled alongside the major roadway saw a boost in offensive firepower. Toledo led the conference with 71 points on Texas Southern, with quarterback Dequan Finn missing just one pass all day, going 16-for-17 for 232 yards and three scores. Running back Penny Boone added three more scores on the ground on just six carries. 30 minutes south, BGSU’s Connor Bazelak threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in route to a 38-point performance from Bowling Green’s offense against Eastern Illinois. While not at home, Miami (OH) still felt the magic, dropping 41 points on UMass’ head. Wide Receiver Gage Larvadain did the dirty work for the RedHawks, totaling 273 yards on eight catches, catching three of quarterback Brett Gabbert’s four touchdown passes.
- Bobcats lead the way – A 17-10 victory of Florida Atlantic puts Ohio in sole possession of first place in not only the MAC East, but the MAC in its entirety. Sitting at 2-1, OU eeked out a victory over the Owls following a 30-minute weather delay. Quarterback Kurtis Rourke returned to action after missing week two’s matchup vs Long Island and looked okay, completing 18 of his 29 pass attempts for 203 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
- Kent State’s struggles continue – Eight days after getting trounced by Central Florida, the Golden Flashes failed to put the ball in the endzone for the second straight week. Andrew Glass was once again the only scorer for Kent, drilling two field goals from 48 and 38 yards out, respectively. Purdue transfer Michael Alaimo led the team and the game in passing with 174 yards on 11 completions but was unable to lead his team to their first touchdown of the season.
