This Saturday is the “Return of the MAC” for Bowling Green as they take on the first-place Miami RedHawks down in Oxford.
Here are the Falcon Four RedHawks to keep your eye on this week –
- Quarterback Brett Gabbert (#5) – The younger brother of NFL journeyman and former first round pick, Blaine Gabbert, Brett has also taken up the family business. One of the better quarterbacks in the Mid-American Conference, Gabbert is currently second in passing yards and passing touchdowns in the MAC, and has only thrown three picks this season. He’s looking to rebound after arguably his worst start of the season against Kent State, where he completed 11 of 23 pass attempts for 216 yards and a touchdown.
- Wide Receiver Gage Larvadain (#10) – After transferring in from Southeastern Louisiana before the season, Larvadain seems to have found his home with Miami. He’s on pace to shatter every personal receiving record through only four games (missed last week’s game @ Kent), and leads the conference in receiving yards (438), while being tied for second in receiving touchdowns (4). He’s a speedy vertical threat who, if healthy, will give Bowling Green’s secondary trouble.
- Kicker Graham Nicholson (#98) – Nicholson is the MAC’s scoring leader, accounting for 43 points so far this season. He has yet to miss a kick of any kind (16/16 on extra points, 9/9 on field goals), and is 5/5 from kicks from 40-49 yards out. Appearing to be automatic, if Bowling Green lets Miami past the 33-yard line, the drive will likely end in points.
- Linebacker Ty Wise (#10) – Wise, statistically, is one of the best players on Miami’s defense. He’s tied for the lead in sacks (3), second on the team in tackles (31), and can drop into coverage and break up a pass if you need him to (2 passes defended). He’s tied for the third-most sacks in the conference and has the 14th-most tackles.
Bowling Green looks to win down in Oxford for the first time since 2017, while Miami tries to avenge last season’s 17-13 loss to Bowling Green.
Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Be sure to tune in to Falcon Radio that day, as I, along with Charles Costa, have the call beginning at 3:15 p.m.
