Ah yes, let us all hear the sweet sounds of one of the greatest phrases in lingual history.
“Midweek MACtion”.
For the first edition of 2023 “Midweek MACtion”, Bowling Green is matching up with the Ball State Cardinals at Doyt Perry Stadium Wednesday night.
This starts a string of four games that will be played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the month of November.
So with that, here are your Falcon Four players to watch for the Cardinals.
- Running back Marquez Cooper (#15) – Marquez Cooper is a transfer from another member in the MAC in Kent State. Cooper spent three seasons at Kent State earning himself first-team all-MAC before heading to Ball State, where he has made an immediate impact on the Cardinal offense. In the eight games he’s played this season, Cooper has rushed for over 580 yards on the ground for two touchdowns, which leads the team, including a long of 66 yards. Those numbers rank him fifth in the MAC. Last week, Cooper was named MAC West Division Player Of The Week in Ball State’s win over Central Michigan.
- Linebacker Sidney Houston (#8) – Sidney Houston is now in his second year at Ball State and has made his mark on the defensive side of the ball. Houston has racked up over 40 tackles with nine of them being for a loss. Along with that, he has 5.5 sacks on the year along with one forced fumble against Toledo. His tackles for loss and sack numbers both rank him third in the MAC. His numbers only continue to grow as the season progresses and he’ll be hard to miss when he and his defense take the field.
- Defensive back Tyler ‘Red’ Potts (#44) – Tyler Potts is a force to be reckoned with when you pass to him on that side of the ball. Potts leads the team in interceptions with two, which ranks him sixth overall in the MAC. Potts has deflected three passes and has 11 tackles on the year. Potts appeared in all 12 games a season ago and is currently in his sixth year in a Cardinal uniform, so it’s safe to say he knows how to read an offense and Falcon fans need to keep an eye out for him.
- Punter Lucas Borrow (#15) – Lucas Borrow punts for Ball State and he originally was from Australia before coming to the U.S. to play football. Borrow has punted for over 1,910 yards across 45 punts. He’s currently second in the MAC for all punters and leads the conference with punts inside the 20 with 19. Borrow can pin your offense deep within your own territory and that can make for a long day, especially in the cold weather, which Bowling Green is expected to get come Wednesday night (WEATHER CHANNEL: 39 degrees at 7 p.m.).
These two schools have had a bit of a hiatus between matchups, as this will be the first meeting between the Falcons and Cardinals since 2015, where Bowling Green won 48-10.
With a win, Bowling Green can put themselves over .500 for the first time all season.
Kickoff on Wednesday is set for 7:00 p.m.
