Bowling Green Women’s Basketball enters Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 record, as well as a bad taste in their mouth.
The Falcons, who have been off for a week, are coming off a loss last Saturday in the lone star state, where they were handled by Texas State 74-48.
But a new challenge awaits the orange and brown. Who is it?

- Was named the ninth head coach in program history on April 5, 2023.
- Spent the previous 10 seasons at Iona, where she led the Gaels to two NCAA Tournament appearances, as well as two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament and regular season titles.
- Is a two-time MAAC Coach of the Year award winner.
- Played college basketball at Hofstra University.
Notable Names:
- Nila Blackford (Sr.): The 6’2 forward from Louisville, Blackford a season ago was the team leader in rebounds (5.5 per game), and also averaged 6.3 points a night. In her career, Blackford has 56 games with double-digit rebounds. So far this season, Blackford is off to a great start, as last time out against Old Dominion, she racked up eight points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
- Kaysia Woods: The current leading scorer for Xavier, Woods is averaging 10.7 points per game, and is also ranked sixth in the BIG EAST in three-point field goals (8). The junior from Lincoln, Nebraska played in all 30 games a season ago, while making seven starts.
- Mackayla Scarlett: Scarlett is coming off the game against the Monarchs where she had 10 points and a game-high four assists, her second straight game in double figures. The senior from the Bronx led the Musketeers in scoring a season ago at 10.9 points per game, and was also top five in the BIG EAST in free throw percentage (84.5 %).
Notable Numbers:
- These two teams are meeting for the first time since 2018, when the Musketeers defeated the Falcons 65-49.
- Xavier leads the all-time series 4-3, and is a perfect 3-0 at home in this series as well.
- Coming into the contest, BG has three players averaging double-figures (Amy Velasco (15), Paige Kohler (12.5), Erika Porter (11)).
