No matter who you are playing in the game of basketball, if you can win on the defensive side of the ball, you will have a high chance of winning.
It also helps when you get some elite offensive performances.
Today was exactly that for Bowling Green women’s basketball (6-2), as the Falcons, behind forcing 10 turnovers, holding Wright State (6-4) to 4-22 from beyond the arc, as well as maintaining a +7 advantage in the rebound battle (41-34), defeated the Raiders 69-48 earlier Tuesday.
For both teams, the first half was a really low scoring output, with BG heading into the halftime locker room up 26-14.
The second half was a much different story.
Six three-point field goals, a 55.5% field goal percentage, as well as multiple big time shots from senior sharpshooter Morgan Sharps helped push the Falcons ahead to a comfortable margin, never looking back.
BG had four Falcons finish in double figures, with Sharps pacing the offense with 19 points, 15 of which came from five deep balls. Fellow seniors Lexi Fleming and Sophie Dziekan each added 14 and 12 respectively, while point guard Amy Velasco had 11.
For Dziekan, she also had 10 rebounds for her first double-double of her career.
Meanwhile for Wright State, this was their first loss at home all season and is their second loss in three games. Layne Ferrell and Rachel Loobie were the only Raiders to finish in double figures, with the two registering 16 and 14 points respectively.
BG now has a week until arguably their biggest test in school history on Dec. 19, as current number one ranked South Carolina comes to town to face off against the Falcons.
