For the second game in a row, Bowling Green hockey struggled in the first period, this time giving up three goals including the game-winner.
Penalties killed the Falcons with all three first-period goals coming from man-advantage by Bemidji State. 21 Bowling Green penalty minutes were recorded on tripping penalties by Josh Nodler and Brandon Santa Juana and a five-minute major boarding penalty by Seth Fyten with an additional 10 minutes and ejection from the game.
Lleyton Roed, Vince Corcoran, and Alexander Lundman scored the first three and powerplay goals, three of five players to score goals and of 10 players to score points. Kirklan Irey was the star Beaver scoring one goal with a hand in the first goal of the game and the game-winner. He was followed closely by both Roed and Corcoran who tallied a goal and assist apiece.
Goaltender Cole Moore struggled against the Beavers saving 28 goals and allowing four, getting beat on three consecutive powerplays on nine penalty-kill attempts. He was eventually pulled and replaced by Salvatore Evola who tallied 7 saves and one goal allowed in 19 minutes of play.
Opposing goaltender Mattias Sholl had a simple day in the Bemidji State crease, saving 16 of only 18 shots on goal, able to kill all four of his team’s penalties.
With their two wins, Bemidji State rises from fourth to first in the CCHA with a 7-5 record. Bowling Green falls to 5-7 and seventh in the conference after being on the receiving end of a sweep.
The Falcons take the long drive home to Bowling Green with a two-week break from games before their exhibition game against Windsor in the Slater Family Ice Arena.
