Bowling Green Director of Athletics Derek van der Merwe announced the hiring of Chris Fox as the new BGSU Women’s Soccer head coach Wednesday evening.
Fox will be the seventh head coach in program history following the departure of Jimmy Walker to Creighton earlier this month.
An official introductory press conference will be held Thursday, December 21, at 9 a.m. in the Cochrane/Cunningham Archives area of Schmidthorst Heritage Hall inside the Stroh Center.
“The BGSU family is excited to welcome Coach Chris Fox, his wife Emily, and their family to our Bowling Green community,” said van der Merwe. “Our women’s soccer program has had sustained success in competing for championships over the last 10 years because of great coaches and student-athletes.”
Fox comes to Bowling Green after serving as the head coach for the Morehead State Eagles for two seasons. When Fox arrived, the Eagles had won just 18 games in the previous five seasons. During Fox’s tenure, the Eagles achieved records of 7-7-4 and 9-6-5 in 2022 and 2023, earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament this past season.
“I am excited and honored to be named the next women’s soccer head coach at Bowling Green State University,” said Fox. “I would like to thank Athletic Director Derek van der Merwe, President Rogers, and the rest of the athletic administration for placing their trust in me to lead the program.
“I believe that BG Soccer will continue to be a force in the MAC. My family and I are looking forward to immersing ourselves in the Bowling Green community and I cannot wait to get started.”
Fox replaces Walker who followed Matt Fannon, both of whom earned two Mid-American Conference (MAC) regular season and tournament titles during their respective tenures.
Most recently, Walker led the Falcons to MAC Tournament Semifinal matchups in each of his four seasons capturing the two tournament victories followed by NCAA Tournament appearances against Ole Miss and Michigan.
More information about Fox can be found in the university’s press release.
