Seven people were killed in six separate crashes on Ohio roadways during the 2023-2024 New Year’s holiday, marking a decrease from last year, according to data provided by the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
OSHP troopers and local law enforcement agencies rev up patrols around the holiday season to help encourage safer roadways in Ohio. The 2023 -2024 OSHP New Year’s reporting period began Friday, Dec. 29, and ran through Monday, Jan 1.
During the reporting period, OSHP troopers reported making contact with traffic enforcement 3,259 times and arresting 272 people on OVI charges. Another 106 people were stopped for distracted driving infractions and 409 were issued safety belt citations.
