Bowling Green women’s basketball took the home floor for the first time in Mid-American Conference (MAC) play on Saturday as the Western Michigan Broncos came to town.
The Falcons entered the day following a big opening night MAC victory over Central Michigan, while the Broncos entered 0-1 in conference after their blowout loss to Ball State on Wednesday.
Western Michigan hopped out to an early lead in the first quarter but a Morgan Sharps three pointer tied the scored 18-18 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was a balanced battle again that saw the Broncos take a one possession lead into the halftime break 37-34.
The Falcons came out of the locker room firing shooting 71% from the floor in the third quarter and outscoring 25-13 and taking a nine point lead 59-50 into the fourth quarter.
Western Michigan would cut Bowling Green’s lead all the way down and push the game back into a tie 69-69 with 2:37 remaining. After that it was all Bowling Green as they held the Broncos scoreless for the remain time.
Sharps ended the day with 19 points leading the Falcons, Erika Porter was right behind with 18 including 14 in the second half. Freshman, Taya Ellis had a monster day as well with seven rebounds and four blocks.
The Falcons will take the Stroh Center floor once again on Wednesday, January 10, against the Eastern Michigan Eagles; tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
