After picking up another close win in Mid-American Conference play, Bowling Green women’s basketball completes the trifecta of battles against the state of Michigan with a home contest against Eastern Michigan on Wednesday night.
In Saturday’s win against Western Michigan, BG had four Falcons register double-digits, with senior Morgan Sharps leading the charge with 19 and fellow senior Erika Porter with 18.
But as always, a new foe presents itself for the orange and brown. Will we see BGSU suffer their first MAC loss? Or will the Falcons get off to a 3-0 start? That will be found out after tomorrow night.
For now, at look at the opponent.
EASTERN MICHIGAN EAGLES
Current Record: 4-8 OVR, 1-1 MAC
Head Coach: Ke’Sha Blanton (Interim head coach)
Notable Blanton Facts:
- Blanton is taking over as an interim head coach for former coach Fred Castro, who was relieved of his duties back on Dec. 12, 2023.
- Blanton came to Ypsilanti after a three-year stint as the associate head coach at Oakland University.
- Has spent time as an assistant coach at Miami, Detroit-Mercy, and Florida State as well.
Notables Names:
- Tayra Eke (Jr.)– Eke is a junior forward out of Madrid, Spain who looks to pick up where she left off against Toledo on Saturday. In back to back game, Eke has registered four blocks and almost eclipsed her career-high in points with 17 against the Rockets. The last time these two teams met, Eke was one of two double-digit scorers, scoring 11 in the MAC quarterfinal tournament to BGSU last year.
- Kennedi Myles (Sr.)- Myles is a senior from Cincinnati who is coming off a strong defensive performance. In the loss to UT, Myles registered three steals for the third time this season and 13th time in her career. Speaking of her career, Myles is in her first year with the green and white after spending two seasons at Marquette and one season at Illinois.
- Cali Denson (Fr.)- Denson continues to keep her spot in the starting five despite being the only freshman to be so. The guard from Milwaukie, Oregon is averaging four points a night for the Eagles, which is not necessarily the wildest stat in the world. However, her strength is free throw shooting, where she has yet to miss one from the charity stripe.
Notable Numbers:
- In their last time out against Toledo, the Eagles allowed just 48 points, the lowest of any MAC foe this season, marking just the third time the Eagles have kept their opponent under 50.
- Currently, EMU has the lowest team field goal percentage at 35.8% in the MAC.
- Lachelle Austin is just outside the top ten in the MAC in free throw percentage (74.1%).
