The BGSU community has something new to do as the Toledo Zoo hosts its annual Orchid Show in February.
The show, featuring over 1,800 plants, offers guests the opportunity to discover the vibrant colors, delightful scents, and interesting backstories of rare and exotic orchids from around the world, according to a press release from the zoo.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the flowers throughout the ProMedica Museum of Natural History. The show offers the chance to see a “bee’s eye view” of what orchids look like to pollinators through the use of ultraviolet fluorescence light.
The three-week show features numerous classes, workshops and demonstrations allowing guests to brush up on their horticulture knowledge and skills. Workshops include learning to create your own garden, build-your-own-bouquet and photography workshops.
In addition, this year’s show offers additional opportunities. The events Blooms and Bubbly allow guests to sip champagne while viewing the displays, Venom Among the Vines features cocktails as guests view the zoo’s venomous snakes, and Slow Brew features coffee samples and live music.
Guests can also purchase an orchid at the Orchid Plant Sale on March 2.
The Orchid Show runs 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from February 9-25 and is included with admission.
