Bowling Green sophomore pitcher and outfielder DJ Newman was named Mid-American Conference (MAC) Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
The honor is the first for Newman and the Falcons this season and Newman’s second weekly award of his Bowling Green career.
In the Falcon’s 9-1 win over Memphis on Friday, the right-hander dominated on the mound, holding the Tigers scoreless for seven innings. Newman gave up just two hits and one walk while tallying a career-high 11 strikeouts.
Along with picking up his first win of the season, the Archbold, Ohio, native’s 11 strikeouts and seven innings pitched against Memphis are tied for the most and second-most by a MAC pitcher this season, respectively.
Next, Newman and the Falcons will stay in Tennessee for a three-game series against the nationally-ranked Tennessee Volunteers from Friday through Sunday.
