Yesterday, the Bowling Green State University baseball team scored 12 runs, earning a 12-1 victory in their game against the Miami RedHawks.
Their win has brought them to a 2-0 record against the Mid-American Conference, both coming now against Miami. This has also secured them a series win to open MAC play, which has not happened since 2021.
In the second inning, BG responded after no runs in the first, scoring two in the second and two more in the third, snagging a 4-0 lead.
The first hit was delivered by Bowling Green junior Gavin Ganun, scoring Jack Krause with an RBI single, with TJ Takats following with another single to score Cooper McKenzie.
Miami’s only run was caused by a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning, bringing the score to 4-1.
DJ Newman drew a walk and scored with Leighton Banjoff smacking a single in the fifth inning, upping the score to 5-1.
Two runs came across in the sixth inning as Takats and Nathan Archer crossed home plate to improve the lead to 7-1.
In the seventh inning, Ganun singled and brought a runner to base. Shortly afterwards, Archer hit a ground rule double, which scored Ganun and brought the score to 9-1.
To finish the game, Zach Horky drew a walk, which led Caden Parker to pinch run for both of them. Three more runs came across, and BG ended the day winning 12-1.
The Falcons and the RedHawks finish their series on Sunday, March 10, with the first pitch being at 1 p.m.
