Bowling Green baseball (6-8) snapped the Ball State Cardinals’ (11-7) two-game win streak on Friday, soaring past them in a 5-4 win in Muncie, Indiana.
The Falcons, who have not won on the Cardinals’ home turf since 2016, snapped that streak and maintained theirv perfect record (4-0) against Mid-American Conference opponents.
To start things off, the Cardinals scored a run during the bottom of the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead.
Bowling Green was quick to respond, scoring a run in the top of the fourth where TJ Takats reached second on a fielding error, allowing Leighton Banjoff to make it across home plate.
The Falcons then took the lead in the sixth inning after Jack Krause hit a single allowing an RBI and subsequent trip home for Tyler Ross.
Ball State fought back by scoring another run in the same inning, closing the Falcons’ short-lived lead with a score of 2-2.
Garrett Wright and Nathan Archer then scored a run apiece in the seventh inning. Wright hit a home run allowing for an RBI, and Archer followed up with a triple. Shortly after, Sam Seidel’s hit to center field allowed Archer to earn Bowling Green’s fourth run of the game, setting the game straight at 4-2.
Bowling Green struck back again when Gavin Ganun hit a single which let Takats score the team’s fifth and final run of the afternoon.
Ball State picked up the pace and attempted to close up the game, scoring a set of runs in the ninth inning via a home run, but was ultimately unsuccessful as BGSU flew away with a 5-4 win.
The Falcons hope to continue their perfect streak in MAC play on Saturday, March 13 at Ball State. The first pitch will be thrown at 3 p.m.
