Bowling Green softball dropped the first game of a three game set against the Toledo Rockets earlier Friday afternoon at Meserve Field 8-3.
In the top of the first inning, the Falcons went down early after an error on the infield allowed leadoff hitter Eli Enriquez to get on base. Enriquez then stole second and advanced.
Later in the inning Enriquez advanced to third on a single, then scored after Emily Bracamonte singled up the middle to put the Rockets in front 1-0.
Aaralyn Nogay got things going right away for the Falcons via a leadoff triple that put herself 60 feet away from scoring with no outs. Peyton Dolejs followed Nogay with a triple of her own to tie the game at 1-1.
The Rockets responded quickly in the top of the second inning. After four hits and another error on the infield of the Falcons, the Rockets took advantage by scoring four runs and putting the Falcons in a 5-1 deficit early in the game.
After not scoring in the third inning, the Rockets jumped back on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Enriquez got things going with a single, but the ball was bobbled in the outfield, allowing Enriquez to advance to third with one out.
A single from Sydney Griffith scored Enriquez for the first Rocket run of the inning. With the runner on, Riley Mohr hit a two-run homerun to put the Rockets ahead 8-1.
The Falcons would not quit against their rival. After Taylor Turner pitched a scoreless fifth inning, the Falcons loaded up the bases with no outs for Dolejs. Dolejs hit a single to the shortstop to allow one run to score and narrow the Rockets margin. Lexi Carver worked a bases loaded walk to score the Falcons second run of the inning and make it a 8-3 game.
Toledo starting pitcher Sophia Knight pitched a complete game and secure the 8-3 win over the Falcons.
