Bowling Green baseball continues to roll right along, winners of now nine straight Mid-American Conference games after defeating the Akron Zips Sunday afternoon 15-5, maintaining a perfect record in MAC play (9-0).
Akron took an early lead, scoring a run each in the first and second innings.
The Falcons responded quickly when Tyler Ross hit a home run, allowing trips to home plate for Sam Seidel, Nathan Archer and himself.
Bowling Green kept up their momentum, scoring two runs and bringing the score to 5-2. DJ Newman started off strong, hitting an RBI that allowed for another Archer score, and soon after, TJ Takats’ turn at bat enabled a run from Seidel.
BGSU’s sixth-inning stint at bat advanced their lead even further with a double from Archer allowing 2 RBIs for Garrett Wright and Caden Parker. Newman took to bat minutes after, allowing a round-trip for Archer, marking his fourth run of the game.
In the seventh inning, the Akron Zips tried to respond by scoring another two runs, closing up the score to 8-5. These efforts were not taken lightly, as the Falcons scored seven runs in the same inning.
To start off the Falcons’ run frenzy, Wright hit a single which turned into an RBI for Parker. The stamina kept the boys as Newman hit a double which let Archer and Wright strike again.
The rest of the seventh inning brought more excitement with a run apiece from Newman, Leighton Banjoff, David Silva and Brady Birchmeier, allowing the team to fly away with the 15-5 victory.
BGSU will take a quick break from MAC play, as they hit the road for a matchup with Notre Dame in South Bend on Tuesday, March 26 at 4:30 p.m.
