The Bowling Green Falcons split the midweek MACtion doubleheader losing the first game 9-1 and dropping the second game 8-6.
GAME ONE
The Falcons dropped the first game of the series 9-1 in what was a very ugly defensive game for Bowling Green amounting five errors in the contest.
The Chippewas were able to put a runner on third with one out in the top of the second inning. Allyssa Hollo singled through the left side to score a run and give Central Michigan the early lead. Grace Koenig followed Hollo with a double that scored her from first base to give the Chippewas a 2-0 lead after two.
The score would stay the same until the bottom of the fourth inning when Reagan Williamson would blast a solo homerun over the left field wall to cut the Chippewas lead in half and make a 2-1 ball game.
When it seemed the Falcons had momentum, the Chippewas took it right back. In the top of the fifth inning, three of the Falcons five defensive errors happened and some timely hits by the Chippewas lead to four runs being scored in the inning and Central Michigan a 6-2 lead.
Central Michigan jumped right back on the board in the sixth inning after Koenig hit a solo homer to go up 7-1 and then in the seventh inning, two more runs were plated after Skylar Coberley an RBI double and Hollo hit a sac-fly to score at the Chippewas ninth run of the game.
Nine runs would be all the Chippewas needed as Grace Lehto pitched a complete game for Central Michigan and earned the win.
GAME TWO
In game two the Falcons lost 8-6 to as Central Michigan secured the sweep over the Falcons.
Central Michigan jumped on the board quickly in the first inning. The first run scored after Hollo hit a sacrifice fly out to center field to score the first run. With runners on second and third with two outs, Koenig hit a single that scored a run to grab a 2-0 lead at the end of one.
The Chippewas scored again in the top of the third inning. With the bases loaded and one out Keira Tolmie hit a sacrifice fly to center field to put the Chippewas ahead 3-0.
In the bottom of the second inning, Williamson put the Falcons on the board in a loud way. With a runner on first, Williamson hit her second home run of the day and made it a 3-2 ball game.
That homerun from Williamson triggered the momentum switch for the Falcons. In the bottom of the fifth inning, The Falcons trung together hit after hit to score four runs in the inning. With a runner on second and one out, Peyton Dolejs singled up the middle to tie the game up at three. Scarlet Anderson followed up with a single to score to put runners on first and second. Cameron Kaufman reached on a fielder’s choice to load up the bases for the Falcons for Bowling Green. Taylor Behrendt would single to the shortstop to give the Falcons a 4-3 lead.
Delaney Davis would follow up with a single to the shortstop of her own to put the Orange and Brown up 5-3. The final run of the inning would score after Williamson singled to right field to put the Falcons up 6-3 going to the sixth inning.
The Chippewas did not go down without a fight loading up the bases with one out. Hollo worked a walk to bring in a run and put the tying run on second with one out. Imn the tight jam, head coach Candace Fenton went to Madi Young out of the bullpen. With the bases loaded, Grace Koenig tied the game with a 2-RBI single to knot the game up at six. Maddie Springer followed up with a double to score two more runs and give the Chippewas a 8-7 lead going to the bottom of the seventh.
The Falcons were able to score a run in the bottom half of the inning but that wasn’t enough and the Chippewas took the 8-7 win over Bowling Green.
Next up. The Orange and Brown will travel to Kent State for a three game series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 20th. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
