Former Bowling Green men’s basketball center Jason Spurgin is returning to the land down under to play professionally with the Sydney Kings of the National Basketball League (NBL), according to ESPN’s Olgun Uluc.
The Toowoomba, Australia, native has reportedly signed a three-year deal with the Kings. He will be a developmental player this upcoming season; however, he will be elevated to a full roster spot for the final two years of his contract.
The 7-foot Australian reportedly had full roster spot offers from at least two other NBL teams.
Spurgin played his first three collegiate seasons at Southern Utah before following head coach Todd Simon to Bowling Green this past season.
Spurgin played in all 34 games during the 2023-2024 campaign with BGSU, averaging 30.4 minutes, 10.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.0 blocks and 0.8 steals per game.
Spurgin shot 45.7% from the field, 33.9% on three-pointers and 68.4% on free throws in his lone season with the Orange and Brown.
Over his four collegiate seasons, Spurgin played in 120 games, starting 107 and averaging 24.5 minutes, 8.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.1 blocks and 0.6 steals per game. In his collegiate career, Spurgin shot 55.1% from the field, 30.5% on three-pointers and 68.2% on free throws.
