Toledo baseball (26-31, 16-14 MAC) escaped elimination during game three of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) tournament on Thursday, defeating the Kent State Golden Flashes (27-27, 17-13 MAC), 8-2.
One game removed from a stagnant performance against Ball State in game one of the MAC tournament, Toledo’s offense found their groove off of a massive two-run homerun from junior infielder Garrett Pike, whose homer was the catalyst for a five-run inning.
Later in the game, junior infielder Trey Wright would smoke a homerun ball of his own, sending Kent State packing and giving Toledo a second chance at MAC tournament life.
If Toledo wants to have an opportunity to compete for a MAC tournament title, they will need their offense to function similarly to today, with seven UT batters recording a hit while only striking out three times.
The Rockets will face elimination yet again on Friday, as they have an early 10 a.m. game against the Miami (OH) RedHawks.
