Western Michigan baseball (30-21, 19-11 MAC) flexed some muscles in their opening Mid-American Conference (MAC) Tournament game against the Ball State Cardinals (33-22-1, 18-12 MAC).
The Broncos managed to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard on Thursday as Western Michigan cruised to a victory in game five of the MAC Tournament.
The first two scoring plays for the Broncos came off home runs from both sophomore infielder Grady Mee and redshirt junior outfielder Dylan Nevar, resulting in a collective of four runs to end the second inning.
Redshirt senior right-hander Brady Miller had a huge game against Ball State, tossing seven total innings, allowing only four hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Miller ended the day just one pitch short of the century mark, with 99 total pitches.
Western Michigan will now face the Bowling Green State University Falcons on Friday at 6 p.m., and the winner will advance to the conference tournament championship.
Both teams are ineligible for elimination upon a loss. Instead, the loser will be sent to the secondary bracket, where they could face elimination.
Falcon Media Sports Network’s (FMSN) Tyler Kavalecz and Chas McNeil will have the call of the game on 88.1 WBGU, starting at 5:30 for pregame. Kavalecz and McNeil will continue providing on-site coverage for the entire tournament on FMSN’s X account.
