Bowling Green State University running back Terion Stewart has been named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced on July 29.
The Maxwell Award, named after Robert “Tiny” Maxwell, a Swarthmore College football player, coach, and sportswriter, is voted on annually by a panel of sportscasters, sportswriters, NCAA head coaches, and members of the Maxwell Football Club and is given to ‘the most outstanding player in college football.’
Stewart joins fellow tailback Antario Brown of Northern Illinois as the only two members of the Mid-American Conference to be named to the watch list.
Stewart carried the ball 125 times for 762 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023, playing in nine games before missing the final four with an injury suffered against Ball State on Nov. 1.
His 6.1 yards per carry ranked 39th in all of college football, and his 78 broken tackles put him in the top five among all running backs.
The Maxwell Award semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 12, and the list will be cut down to three finalists on Nov. 26.
The winners will be announced at the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12. The recipients will officially be honored at the Maxwell Football Club Awards on March 14, 2025, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Ga.
