Senior starting right tackle Alex Wollschlaeger was named to the Preseason Outland Trophy watch list yesterday.
The Outland trophy is given yearly to the best interior offensive lineman, as the semi-finalists are announced on November 20th, with that being cut down to three finalists six days later on November 26th. The winner will be announced on Dec. 12th at the Home Depot College Football Award Show in Atlanta, Georgia.
Wollschlaeger earned himself 3rd team all-MAC a year ago. He was also a big help to Terion Stewart’s success in the backfield. As announced this week, Stewart was on a watch list of his own, the Maxwell watch list.
The Illinois native is one of four that is returning on the line from a year ago and is a big reason why most of head coach Scot Loeffler’s game plans will be heavily focused on the run game.
Wollschlaeger is also one of three MAC players to be on the watch list. Center Jacob Gideon out of Western Michigan and Miami’s Reid Holskey, as both of them are seniors as well.
Be sure to tune in each Tuesday to see if Wollschlaeger or any other Bowling Green offensive linemen earn themselves Outland Trophy Player of the Week, which will add themselves to the watch list and the pool of players that will be picked to be represented on Dec. 12th.
