Bowling Green football senior cornerback Jordan Oladokun was named to the preseason Jim Thorpe watch list on Wednesday afternoon.
The Jim Thorpe Award, awarded annually since 1986, is given to the best defensive back in college football for on-the-field play and the player’s character throughout the year.
Oladokun was part of a defense that snagged 17 interceptions a season ago. Four of them came at the hands of Oladokun, including a pick-six. He was tied for the most interceptions on the team with Jalen Husky.
The senior played in 11 games and, as mentioned, had four interceptions, 21 solo tackles, nine assisted tackles and 10 pass deflections. Those stats earned him Second-Team All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) honors.
He is also one of eight returning FBS players with at least 30 tackles, four interceptions and one pick-six.
Oladokun is one of three MAC players selected on the watch list, joining Toledo’s Maxen Hook and Central Michigan’s Donte Kent.
The Jim Thorpe Award semifinalists and finalists will be announced on Oct. 29 and Nov. 26, respectively. The winner will be announced on Dec. 12 during the Home Depot College Football Award Show, which will air on ESPN.
