With the season just 10 days away, Eric Nichols and BGSU men’s soccer have announced the addition of former stand-out player Ryan James as an assistant coach.
James appeared in every game for The Falcons from 2012-15, playing 79 career games scoring nine goals and tallying fifteen assists.
In his junior and senior seasons, he was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Team and was also awarded the BGSU Medal of Honor as the male recipient.
James was drafted in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by Sporting Kansas City in the third round, becoming just the second Falcon to be drafted in the MLS SuperDraft in program history.
The Canadian native played eight years professionally, seven of them in the United Soccer League (USL). James played for the Rochester Rhinos, Nashville SC, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, Birmingham Legion FC, and spent his final year as a professional with HFX Wanderers in the Canadian Premier League (CPL). Playing over 200 games in his professional career.
“Ryan is an incredible player and person, he understands the essence of our program, and his experience as a professional will make him an invaluable resource for our current players,” said Nichols. “We are thrilled and fortunate to have Ryan return to Bowling Green.”
