BGSU Director of Athletics Derek van der Merwe has announced the hiring of Brittney Emmons as the new gymnastics head coach.
Emmons, who succeeds Kerrie Turner as the fourth head coach in program history, will be formally introduced at a press conference in the Sebo Center at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
“Brittney is an emerging talent in collegiate gymnastics,” van der Merwe said. “As a teammate, leader, and coach, she has had the ability to effectively support building and sustaining a winning culture. I am excited to partner with her in the process of building a successful program at BGSU.”
Emmons spent the past five seasons as an assistant coach at William & Mary, earning Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2020.
This past season, Emmons helped the Tribe earn a program-record 193.920 national qualifying score.
Before entering the coaching ranks, she was a gymnast at Ball State, earning trips to three NCAA Regionals as an all-arounder and being named Mid-American Conference (MAC) Senior Gymnast of the Year in 2013.
“I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to step into the role of head coach of the Bowling Green State University gymnastics program. I would like to thank President Rodgers, Director of Athletics Derek van der Merwe, and Deputy AD Stacy Kosciak for this opportunity,” Emmons said. “I look forward to working as a team to continue to lead and discuss the program’s future goals. To the BGSU student-athletes, community, and alumni, I am excited for this opportunity and cannot wait to hit the ground running, building relationships and support for the program!”
