The BGSU women’s soccer team (2-0-0) continued their momentum Thursday night, picking up a dominant 3-0 victory over the University of Findlay.
For the Falcons, this would be only their second regular season Division II matchup in program history and the first time in nearly a decade that they have faced off against the Findlay Oilers.
The Falcons found their stride early offensively. Controlling the ball on their side and the opposing side of the field BG was able to spread the field and set up their plays methodically.
The first of these plays to prove to be successful for the orange and brown came in the 7th minute of the match from a high left side kick off the foot of captain defender Lexi Czerwien which was assisted by sophomore midfielder Michelle Hochstadt and defender Christine Erdman.
While the score remained 1-0 to end the second half it was clear the Falcons had a clear advantage on both sides of the ball. Holding the Oilers to no shots on goal, while having three shots on target.
Findlay would open the second half of play with the best offensive efficiency that they had presented in the game up to that point, finding ways to get breaks on passes that they previously had no answer for in the first half.
Bowling Green would find the solution to a nearly 80-minute stalemate by once again finding the back of the net in the 87′, making the game 2-0. The goal came off a long-range strike from sophomore midfielder Emme Butera, who played all 90 minutes for a second game in a row.
The scoring wouldn’t stop there for Bowling Green as just over 30 seconds later, redshirt sophomore midfielder Emily Hollar would take advantage of a penalty kick drawn by sophomore forward Lizzie Bultynck, beating the goalkeeper on the right side of the net and putting BG up 3-0.
The Falcons would close out the game the same way that they started, patient. Seemingly every time the Oilers looked to have an opportunity Bowling Green would shut it down and regain possession for lengthy periods.
“We’re patient and they are sticking to the model, there not letting frustrations get to them and start to give up, they are sticking to the plan.” noted head coach Chris Fox.
This win marks the first time since 2020 that the Bowling Green Women’s soccer team has won its first two games of the regular season.
The Falcons will look to continue this momentum on the road as they face off against Duquesne this Sunday with Kick-off at 3 p.m.
