Bowling Green failed to score for the second time in as many games on Sunday afternoon in a disappointing loss that saw many scoring opportunities fail to find the back of the net.
The Falcons’ problem with finishing chances troubled them greatly in this game, as they were able to maintain possession, especially when down in the late second half. However, they were unable to finish the job past the midfield line, where the Rambler defense and goalkeeping was stifling.
BGSU got a fantastic chance in the 18th minute when sophomore midfielder Michelle Hochstadt took advantage of a misplayed pass and sent a great ball past the Rambler defense to sophomore forward Emma Stransky. Stansky had an open shot in the box but failed to execute after Loyola Chicago redshirt freshman keeper Allison Deardorff did just enough.
The Ramblers started to pressure the Falcons towards the middle of the first half, earning chances from great fundamental offense, as two shots by freshman midfielder Olivia Anderson and one by senior midfielder Taylor Harrison did not quite make it into the back of the net.
After saving two more shots, BG redshirt junior goalkeeper Madison Vukas would finally allow one into the back of the net, but an offsides call would scratch the goal off the board and keep the game scoreless.
Halftime would come, and the score remained scoreless despite six shots from each team and five total shots on goal.
The Ramblers would put a goal on the board 10 minutes into the second half. A shot from outside the box by sophomore forward/midfielder Zoe Hevey was saved by Vukas; however, Harrison easily slotted the rebound into the back of the net, putting Loyola Chicago up 1-0.
Stransky and Hochstadt were extremely active on the offensive side of the ball in this game. Stransky had two shots, with one on goal, and Hochstadt was the facilitator, putting great balls into the Rambler side on multiple occasions.
Despite the loss, BG will stay confident that they are close to success after nine shots and five on goal found a way to avoid the net.
The Falcons will attempt to get back to their scoring ways in the final game of their current road trip against the Cleveland State Vikings (0-4) on Sunday, Sept. 8.
