After a dominating 41-17 victory over Fordham, BGSU football (1-0) will look to pull out a massive win on the road as they take on #8 Penn State (1-0) in Happy Valley.
Plenty of players to spotlight in this matchup, but these four specifically are ones to keep an eye on this Saturday.
QB Drew Allar (#15) Coming out of Medina High School in Ohio, Allar was recruited and offered by Bowling Green when he was just a sophomore. He’s come a long way since then. After completely reworking his mechanics during his last two years of high school, Allar exploded onto the scene as a junior and senior, earning offers from Notre Dame, Ohio State, and of course Penn State. He finished as the third-best prospect in the country, according to 247Sports.com, behind Colorado’s Travis Hunter and Ole Miss’ Walter Nolen. Since arriving in Happy Valley, Allar has done nothing but dazzle. In 2023, his first full season as the starter, he completed 233 of 389 attempts for 2,631 yards, 25 touchdowns, and two interceptions.
RB Nick Singleton (#10): The feature back of Penn State’s committee, Singleton ranks 20th all-time at Penn State in rushing yards with 1,813 (prior to 2024). Listed at 6-0, 226 pounds, featuring an alleged 4.39 40-yard dash, Singleton possesses an unreal combination of size, power, and speed.
DE Abdul Carter (#11) Slated to become a first-round pick in next April’s draft, Carter has produced every year he’s seen the field at Penn State. In 27 games, he has 105 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks.
Safety Jaylen Reed (#1) A do-it-all safety, Reed has played in 35 games, starting 14. He’s recorded 92 tackles, seven tackles for loss, eight pass breakups, two interceptions, and a sack. Last week against West Virginia, he was second on the team in tackles with nine and broke up two passes.
Falcon Media Sports Network’s Sean Connelly, Rhys Patrykus, and Tyler Kavalecz will have the call on Falcon Radio starting at 11:30 am for pregame.
Kickoff is set for noon on Saturday, September 7.
