For BGSU Volleyball’s (2-3) fifth straight match, fans only saw three sets of action. Unfortunately, the Dayton Flyers (4-0) were too strong for the Falcons to take a win or even the game to four sets.
The game started well for BG. The first two sets finished quite close, 25-22 and 25-20, with only a gust of wind able to swing momentum to one side or the other. In both sets, however, the wind blew for the Red and Blue.
Dayton clipped the Falcons wings in the third set, winning 25-13 and ultimately sweeping the Falcons.
Lexie Almodovar of Dayton had an impressive offensive outing with 16 kills and 18 points, adding 10 digs to a stellar game. Liana Sarkissian followed Almodovar with 11 kills, and three other Flyers stood only a couple away from double-digit kills themselves.
BG’s numbers were as could be expected. Mia Tyler and Lauryn Hovey led the way once more with nine kills each, Tyler also with a block and dig, and Hovey with two aces and eight digs.
Despite the loss, Lindsey LaPinta had a career-high in digs, with 18 total for the Falcons.
Anna Sitek and Amanda Otten split time as setters, both playing all three sets, achieving double-digit assists, and recording a handful of digs.
The Orange and Brown chase .500 once again on Sunday, Sep. 8 when they take the court against the Wright State Raiders at 3 p.m. in Dayton, Ohio.
