The BGSU Volleyball team (3-3) defeated Wright State (4-2) in four sets in the final of the Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitation on Sunday afternoon, boosting their record back to .500.
Wright State started strong, defeating BGSU in the first set. The Falcons led 19-17 late but were outscored 8-2 from that point, dropping the set 25-21.
The second set was a tight, back-and-forth battle until Bowling Green went on a 5-0 run, pushing the score to 21-18 BG. The Falcons never looked back, ultimately winning the set 25-23.
The third set consisted of BGSU making comebacks. Wright State started on a 6-1 run and later stretched it to 17-9. However, BGSU was able to chop away at the deficit and cut the score to 17-15. From that point, the Falcons turned on the jets and finished on a 10-5 run to win their second consecutive set.
With all the momentum on their side, the Falcons were able to surge to a 25-20 victory in the fourth and final set, securing their second victory in their past three matches.
Junior opposite hitter Lauryn Hovey led the Falcons with 13 kills, while defensive specialist Lindsey LaPinta tallied 21 digs, surpassing her previous career high of 19.
It is also worth noting that fifth-year outside hitter Jordan Newblatt recorded her first BGSU double-double with 13 points and 11 kills.
Next, BGSU is off to Chicago to play in the Depaul Tournament. Their first matchup is against UIC (5-1) on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
