BGSU volleyball (5-4) walked out of Chicago Saturday with a positive record through tournament play, defeating DePaul (6-3) in four sets.
The Orange and Brown are above .500 for the first time this season since game one against Chicago State (3-5) on August 30th.
DePaul came out swinging in set one going up 5-0, forcing Bowling Green and head coach Danijela Tomic to take an early timeout. The Falcons would take the lead 8-7 propelled by back-to-back service aces from junior opposite Lauryn Hovey and only lose the lead once, taking set one (25-23).
In set two junior middle blocker Jessica Andrews accounted for three kills and three blocks which was only a portion of her near double-double day. Andrews tied a career-high in kills (11) and tallied nine blocks, putting her one block short of her first career double-double.
The Blue Demons would manage to swipe a set from the Orange and Brown in what was a lopsided third set (25-15) aided by nine total Falcon errors.
After an entertaining back-and-forth fourth and final set of the match, Hovey delivered the final kill ending the game (25-23).
After the match fifth-year middle blocker Alexis Mettille was named to the UIC/DePaul Invitational All-Tournament Team. Mettille tallied 29 kills and four errors resulting in a (.444) attack percentage, defensively she also added ten total blocks.
The Falcons will look to take their momentum into a home-and-home two-game series against Ohio State (5-2) with match one in Bowling Green at the Stroh Center on Friday at 6 p.m.
