In a sport like cross country, it’s easy for a single standout athlete to command the whole spotlight.
However, a performance like Friday’s should put the rest of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) on notice.
Despite the absence of all-star runner Kailee Perry, the team finished first in Western Michigan’s George Dales Invitational.
The orange and brown finished above familiar MAC opponents such as Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Central Michigan.
The win marks the Falcons’ first 6K victory outside Bowling Green’s home course in 10 years.
Bowling Green was led by a pair of personal records, starting with Kylee Cubbison’s fourth-place, 20:57.0 finish, closely followed by Regina Rose finishing fifth with a time of 21:02.3.
Veterans Emma Hellwege (22:07.0) and Rachael Withrow (21:34.2) also posted personal records for the Falcons.
Freshmen Rachael Hoover, Reese Reaman, and Amelia Barilla raced attached to the team for the first time this year, placing 10th, 14th and 27th, respectively.
Echoing a mindset he’s consistently imparted to his team, coach Lou Snelling remarked, “We raced with a championship focus and mentality today!”
The Falcons will be back in action on October 5th for the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
