Oxford, Ohio – The BGSU women’s soccer team (5-3-2, 2-1-1) clashed with Miami (OH) (5-2-4, 1-1-2) in a 1-1 draw to wrap up the second week of MACtion after an hour and a half delay, which included a field switch to Ross High School in Hamilton.
The match opened with an early shot in the second minute by Miami forward Katie O’Malley that missed to the right of the goal.
Sophomore midfielder Michelle Hochstadt took the first shot on goal for the Falcons, which was pushed wide-left of the goal in the 13th minute of the match.
Miami (OH) took control of the first half, outshooting the Falcons four shots to one, which included five fouls from both teams.
The first half also added a hint of history as Falcons freshman goalkeeper Payton O’Malley made her first career save in her collegiate debut in the 33rd minute on a shot by Redhawks Makenna Morrison.
Miami (OH) came out hot in the second half with five shots within the first 15 minutes but were unable to find that killer second goal.
Falcons midfielder Lexi Czerwien answered quickly with a goal for the Orange and Brown in the 55th minute of the match to make the score 1-0 BGSU.
Following 30 intense minutes of back-and-forth action after Czerwien’s goal, the Redhawks answered late with a goal of their own by forward Taylor Hamlett in the 85th minute of the match.
The Falcons would not get another chance to retake the lead, resulting in a 1-1 draw heading into a six-day break for a chance to recuperate and recover.
Miami (OH) outshot BG twelve to four while having four and three shots on goal, respectively. The game’s intensity was shown throughout the multitude of fouls between the teams, with 13 for Miami (OH) and eight for Bowling Green.
Bowling Green is now 2-1-1 in the MAC, which has them tied for 4th overall in the conference through two weeks of conference play.
Next up, the Falcons will come back to Cochrane Stadium to take on the Northern Illinois Huskies for their fifth MAC game of the season on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m.
