BGSU volleyball (10-6, 5-0 MAC) came out strong Saturday against Western Michigan (5-10, 1-3 MAC), sweeping the Broncos to remain perfect through five games of Mid-American Conference (MAC) play.
The Orange and Brown were coming off of a Friday night nailbiter against WMU that went to five sets with Bowling Green completing their second straight reverse sweep of the season.
After the second set on Friday, BG hopped in the driver’s seat and did not stop moving, winning the following six sets.
All cylinders were firing on Saturday, as the Falcons enjoyed much success spreading the ball to their offensive weapons.
Senior outside hitter Mia Tyler was the standout on the offensive side of the ball with a team-leading 15 total kills against WMU, resulting in 17.0 points.
None of the offensive efficiency would have been possible without the lights-out performance of sophomore setter Amanda Otten, who led the team with 31 assists and five blocking assists. Otten also tallied a service ace.
Junior opposite hitter Lauryn Hovey functioned as the motor for the Orange and Brown, as her consistency with two aces, 11 digs, one block and nine kills kept the Falcons balanced and made it easy to spread the ball.
Hovey’s final kill of the match also served as a massive career milestone—her 1000th kill in the Orange and Brown just three years into her young career.
The Falcons will look to keep the momentum going as they take on two more Michigan teams this week at the Stroh Center.
Bowling Green will battle Eastern Michigan on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Central Michigan at 6 p.m. on Friday.
