The Bowling Green Falcons (11-8) defeated the Buffalo Bulls (10-11) in just three sets to sweep the Bulls on Thursday night at Alumni Arena.
This win shakes off a two-game skid for the Falcons and puts them back into the win column for both overall and conference play as well. The win for the Falcons gets them to a 6-2 record for the Mid-American Conference.
Here is how the game played out:
The Buffalo Bulls got off to a hot start early, going on a quick 8-3 run highlighted by a couple of kills from sophomore outside hitter Manoela Forlin.
Yet the Orange and Brown wouldn’t go down that easily as senior outside hitter Mia Tyler gets them back into the set with a couple of kills of her own.
Early on, back-and-forth action forces head coach Danijela Tomic to call her first timeout of the set at a score of 15-13 for the Bulls.
Attack errors, service errors, and all sorts of errors for the Bulls allowed the Falcons to go on a run to steal the first set away from the Bulls with a score of 25-19.
Starting the second set, was instant deja vu as the Bulls once again took a fast 8-3 over Bowling Green.
Junior middle blocker Jessica Andrews and junior opposite hitter Lauryn Hovey feel the deja vu in the air, too, as they get a couple of kills each and lead the Falcons back into the set. Buffalo calls the first timeout of the set as the Falcon’s impressive run gave them a 15-11 advantage.
Tyler and the Falcons showed a lot of aggressiveness on the court, and sixth-year middle blocker Abby Leigh was doing everything she could, getting a couple of kills trying to keep the Bulls and the set alive.
Once again, attack errors allowed the Falcons to take away the set from Buffalo. Bowling Green ended up taking the set with a score of 25-18 and now a 2-0 set advantage for the Orange and Brown.
The third set started with back-and-forth action, with both teams getting kills to keep the match dead even.
The Orange and Brown kept the offense pretty balanced, having multiple players and 5+ kills through just three sets. Buffalo allowed Bowling Green to gain some momentum, which forced the Bulls to call a timeout in the third set with a 15-12 BG advantage.
Hovey and the Falcons took advantage of all the attack errors committed by the Bulls with a couple of kills of their own. The Orange and Brown eventually took the third and final set 25-16 for the clean sweep against Buffalo.
The Falcons had an impressive ten blocks on the night. The offense did not have to break much of a sweat tonight as the Bulls had an abysmal 25 attack errors on the night, which allowed the Falcons to secure the win.
