There were two very well-played periods in BGSU hockey’s 6-2 loss to Western Michigan on Thursday night, with the second period being the decider.
The Broncos scored four with a 2-2 tie early in the second to stomp the Falcons and hand them their first loss of the season.
Power plays and defensive miscues plagued Bowling Green.
In only the second, WMU’s sophomore forward Alex Bump and junior forward Liam Valente scored goals with a man advantage, with Valente and sophomore forward Owen Michaels scoring goals on defensive breakdowns, adding four goals to Cole Moore’s stat line that were somewhat less deserved than accounted for.
The only two goals for the Falcons came from a Brody Waters off-the-draw wrist shot in the backend of the first and a power-play goal from sophomore forward Ben Doran on a beautiful pass from behind the net by junior forward Brett Pfoh.
While the Falcon’s offense was strong early in the first, two straight goals by freshman forward Zach Nehring brought some lack of momentum just 15 minutes into the game.
While the Falcons took an offensive jump in the third period, Western Michigan had already devoted their focus entirely to defense, making it a futile effort by BG.
Next, BGSU travels to Rochester, New York, to battle the Rochester Institute of Technology, starting at 7:07 pm on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Falcon Media Sports Network will have no broadcast, but a preview and postgame recap are available on bgfalconmedia.com.
