With just three regular season games remaining to secure a spot in the Mid-American Conference Tournament, Bowling Green (6-5-4, 3-3-3 MAC) played to a 0-0 draw against Eastern Michigan (5-6-5, 1-3-5 MAC).
Defensively, Bowling Green had a strong outing. The Eagles only had one shot on goal, and freshman goalkeeper Payton O’Malley was able to save it with no issues.
The Falcons tallied 10 shots with three shots on goal compared to four shots with just one on goal for the Eagles. Sophomore forward Emma Stransky was the closest to consistent for BG, accounting for three of the 10 shots taken by the Falcons. Ultimately neither team was successful in finishing on these goal attempts, something Bowling Green has struggled with more often than they’d like.
“I felt like we created the chances to win the game, and we didn’t find the back of the net,” said head coach Chris Fox.“It’s unfortunately been kind of par for the course for us this season.”
Despite failing to secure a win, a tournament berth is still very much on the cards for The Orange and Brown.
While Cochrane Stadium played host to a scoreless draw, Miami was victorious 2-1 over Central Michigan, Northern Illinois downed Ball State 3-1, and Kent State topped Akron 1-0. With these results, the Falcons are currently on the outside looking in, sitting in 7th place in the MAC, with their remaining games coming against last-place Akron and 4thplace Kent State.
Bowling Green’s penultimate regular-season action will come Sunday, Oct. 7, when they travel to Akron to take on the Zips for a 1 p.m. kickoff in a must-win game for the Falcons.
