While both were tight games, the Ohio State Buckeyes bested the Bowling Green Falcons in 3-1 and 2-0 fashion. OSU advances to 5-0-1 on the season and first in the Big10, while BG falls to 3-3 heading into their first CCHA weekend of the season.
Similar to Friday’s game, the home opener in the Slater Family Ice Arena had a 2-0 lead heading into the third period. Forward Davis Burnside and defenseman Damien Carfagna found the only two goals of the game around four minutes and 12 minutes into the second, an 11-penalty second period.
While penalties plagued both teams, the conversions were not present. The Buckeyes went 1-4 on man advantages with the goal from Burnside, while the Falcons went 0-5 on their chances, recording many shots on goal but no tallies.
Yet BG head coach Dennis Williams remains happy about his team’s performances over the weekend, especially in the home arena.
“We got a good jump,” said Williams. “We got the crowd right into it early and developed some opportunities. It’s the swings of momentum that make the game of hockey, and I commend the guys because, at the end of the day, that is a good hockey club, and we fought them for two games.”
Positivity can be displayed both for skaters from both teams as well as the keepers. Kristoffer Eberly followed an amazing performance in the net from fellow Buckeye goaltender Logan Terness with an immaculate game, 22 saves with no goals allowed. Cole Moore, on the other side, also kept the Falcons around with his 31-save outing, allowing two goals, only one to even strength.
The Falcons head into the week preparing for their first CCHA escapade against Ferris State. The weekend will take place in the Slater Family Ice Arena on Friday and Saturday at 7:07 p.m., and the Falcon Media Sports Network’s voice of Falcon hockey, Ben Corak, will have the broadcast on WBGU 88.1 FM.
